The information in the internet database is a subset of the information contained in the Office's internal database. In particular, information regarding
Please note that the database will not normally contain the names of organisations established by an Act of Parliament and subject to the control and direction of a Minister of the Crown, as these organisations are not required to obtain an authority to fundraise. This includes state emergency service organisations, ambulance service, parents and citizens associations, and rural fire brigades. In addition, religious organisations that are recognised under the Marriage Act, 1961, are exempt from all the requirements of the Charitable Fundraising Act, 1991. This exemption may also be passed on to organisations and bodies associated with the religious organisation if the organisation's principal or executive officer gives approval in writing.
As this agency is progressively migrating this internet database to a public register within the Government Licensing System from 2 August 2006, some search information may not be current or complete after that date.
If you find any information in this database which you think is incorrect, we would appreciate you advising us by email.
Mailing lists in mail-merge format may be supplied, for a fee. Please contact us for pricing.
The information contained in the database is Crown Copyright. It is not to be stored in any other database, nor is it to be used for the purpose of unsolicited mail outs without the written permission of the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.
The default search will find a match if the target word you specify is found ANYWHERE within the words stored in the database. This a search for, say, 'WARE' will find matches in 'WARES', 'AWARE' and 'AWARENESS'.
To override the default behaviour, you can
Multiple search terms can be used - the assumed (implicit) relationship operator is an 'AND' e.g. GIRL GUIDES searches for names which contain both the words 'GIRL' AND also the word 'GUIDES'.
Use a | operator if you want to have an 'OR' relationship in the search terms e.g. AGED | ELDERLY.
A 'NOT' operator, ^ is also available e.g. GIRL ^ GUIDES will return those names which do contain the word 'GIRL', omitting those which contain both the word GIRL and GUIDES. The 'NOT' operator cannot successfully be used on the first word in a search target.
Simple left to right parsing of the search terms is used; parentheses () to control the parsing order are not available.
The search is limited to returning 200 results at a time. We may be able to provide more information on request.
1993 - present - The Charitable Collections Act, 1934 was repealed by the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991. This Act changed the emphasis from 'registering a charity' to 'granting an authority (or permit) to fundraise'. Authorities granted under this Act are numbered from CFN1000 onwards. The CFN prefix was chosen to avoid confusion with the CC numbers. During the renewal process, existing charities were invited to register under the new Act. Authorities issued under the Charitable Fundraising Act, 1991 are subject to a renewal process every few years, and during the renewal process, the information in our database is updated.
If you are searching for a CC number and cannot find it on the database, it is possible that the organisation has not applied for an Authority to Fundraise. Please email us if you want to make an enquiry regarding such a number.
The 'Y' number is the certificate of incorporation number allocated in respect of organisations registered under the Associations Incorporation Act, 1984. We understand that the Office of Fair Trading replaced the "Y" prefix with "INC" prefix for certificates of incorporation issued after November, 1999. To handle this situation, the Charitable Fundraising database stores the number twice - once with a "Y" prefix and again with an "INC" prefix. (The Y number is stored WITH a hyphen, and the INC number is stored without the hyphen.) Thus, you can search for a "Y" number (please include the prefix "Y" and the hyphen e.g. Y12345-12), or, alternatively, you can search for the equivalent INC number (please include the "INC" prefix e.g. INC1234512).
